Instrument Licensing Solutions and Patient & Site Strategy helps organizations understand how patients feel and function in clinical research and routine care. The team develops and manages the instruments used to capture patient experience, oversees permissions and licensing, and guides the evolution and integration of patient- and site-facing technologies with electronic health records.


Patient Science, Instrument Development and Thought Leadership

Patient Science, Instrument R&D and Thought Leadership develops new clinical outcome assessment instruments and expands or enhances existing instruments, with emphasis on priority therapeutic areas and market gaps. Drawing on deep expertise in instrument development, scientific consulting, and delivery, the team supports client engagements in collaboration with Patient and Clinical Technology (PACT), IQVIA Laboratories, digital-measure scientists, imaging-measurement scientists, COA managers and therapeutic-area centers of excellence. The team also advances thought leadership through white papers, peer-reviewed publications, books, posters, and podium presentations, working closely with clients, regulators, patient advocacy organizations, industry experts, and other stakeholders.


Position

Composite and companion measures represent an important advance in measuring what matters to patients. By integrating multiple sources of evidence, they help move health care and clinical research beyond measures of service utilization toward a more complete understanding of meaningful outcomes.

This role leads the strategic, scientific, and regulatory development of laboratory- and genomic-enabled composite and companion measures in partnership with IQVIA Labs and external partners. These solutions are designed for use by biopharmaceutical and medical-device organizations in clinical trials and real-world studies, as well as by health care professionals in routine clinical practice.

The Senior Director ensures that the patient perspective is rigorously measured and incorporated into drug-development strategy, laboratory and genomic research, clinical outcome assessment endpoint strategy, regulatory submissions, and commercialization through the application of behavioral and measurement science.


Role Overview

The Senior Director Composite Measures Science & Integration leads the design, development, validation, and implementation of scientifically rigorous composite and companion measurement solutions in partnership with IQVIA Labs and external partners. The role supports corporate strategy, client requirements, global clinical trials, real-world research, and patient-facing care by integrating clinical outcome assessments, digital measures, laboratory and genomic data, and emerging technologies into meaningful endpoints and scalable service offerings aligned with market needs and the IQVIA solutions portfolio.


Strategic and Scientific Leadership

Set the strategy, scientific direction, and operating model for Laboratory & Genomic composite and companion measure development.

Partner with IQVIA Labs scientific team and external partners on scientific evolution and market needs.

Assess the feasibility and value of applying measurement science, laboratory methods, digital technologies, and novel data sources to products and services.

Align measurement research and development priorities with corporate strategy, business objectives, client needs, regulatory expectations, and market dynamics.

Maintain expert knowledge of developments in drug development, clinical outcome assessment, digital health technology, laboratory science, genomics, patient care, and relevant regulatory guidance.

Serve as a recognized internal and external scientific authority and as the primary technical contact for complex, cross-functional contracts and projects.


Core Responsibilities

  • Direct the end-to-end development, validation, integration, and delivery of composite measures that combine laboratory, genomic and other clinically relevant data with patient-reported, clinician-reported and digital outcome data.
  • Ensure that COA data collection, digital-measure data, laboratory operations, and associated deliverables meet applicable scientific, quality, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead research design and execution, including validation protocols, analytical methods, technical reports, troubleshooting strategies, and short- and long-term project goals.
  • Oversee the evaluation and validation of relevant laboratory measurement instruments and methods, including installation, operational, and performance qualification documentation, as appropriate in collaboration with IQVIA Labs and external partners.
  • Ensure the high-quality, timely delivery of clinical research and health care solutions while maintaining exceptional standards of client service.
  • Use performance indicators, process analysis and AI to improve efficiency, scalability, cost control, resource utilization, and readiness for growth.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives and collaborate with therapeutic-area experts, consulting teams, regulators, clients, patient advocacy organizations, industry thought leaders, technology partners, and other stakeholders.

Innovation, Publications, and Partnerships

  • Translate scientific and technological advances into differentiated service offerings for clinical research and patient-facing care.
  • Advance scientific literature and industry dialogue through peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts, posters, podium presentations, white papers, books, patent applications, and scientifically accurate marketing materials.
  • Lead or support the development of intellectual property, vendor agreements, research collaborations, and strategic partnerships.
  • Identify proactive client solutions that create scientific value, strengthen market differentiation, and support sustainable revenue growth.

People and Operational Leadership

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing multidisciplinary team through effective recruitment, onboarding, training, mentorship, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Foster a unified culture of collaboration, information sharing, accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and manage operating budgets, resource plans, cost-control standards, and capacity strategies.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance and operational teams to implement effective quality programs, address performance issues promptly, and maintain current procedures and staff capabilities.
  • Manage staff in accordance with organizational policies and applicable regulations, including work planning, assignment, professional development, employee relations, and appropriate human-resources actions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline required; advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 15 years of relevant experience, including substantial experience in scientific method development, clinical laboratory or drug-development solutions, and people leadership.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of scientific principles, measurement theory, method development, drug development, and relevant state-of-the-art instrumentation and technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence across organizational boundaries, lead multiple workstreams, manage complex projects, and communicate effectively with clients and senior leaders.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, analytical, presentation, and client-management capabilities, with the ability to translate scientific insight into practical, scalable, and commercially relevant solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and ensure that they are performed in a quality manner.
  • Strong knowledge of the BioPharma drug development industry and applying that knowledge to the improvement of their business unit.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills to influence at various levels of the business, including senior leadership.
  • Skill in extracting relevant data to measure performance indicators and proactively plan for growth and scalability.
