Der Staff Storage & Backup Engineer ist eine erfahrene technische Führungskraft und verantwortlich für die Architektur, Entwicklung, Automatisierung sowie das Lifecycle-Management von Enterprise-Speicher- und Datenschutzplattformen in lokalen (On-Premises), Hybrid-Cloud- und Public-Cloud-Umgebungen.

Der Schwerpunkt dieser Rolle liegt auf den Technologien VAST Data, NetApp und Commvault. Die Position übernimmt die Verantwortung für Design, Optimierung, Modernisierung und den operativen Betrieb von Storage- und Backup-Services.

Ihre Aufgaben

Storage-Architektur & Engineering

• Verantwortung für Architektur, Engineering und Lifecycle-Management von Storage-Plattformen mit Schwerpunkt auf VAST Data und NetApp.
• Entwicklung und Optimierung skalierbarer Speicherlösungen für unternehmenskritische Anwendungen und Workloads.
• Leitung von Initiativen zur Modernisierung, Migration, Konsolidierung und Cloud-Integration von Storage-Umgebungen.
• Durchführung von komplexem Troubleshooting sowie Performance-Analysen und -Optimierungen in Storage-Landschaften.

Backup, Recovery & Datenschutz

• Konzeption, Implementierung und Optimierung von Enterprise-Backup- und Recovery-Lösungen mit Schwerpunkt auf Commvault.
• Entwicklung cyberresilienter Datensicherungsstrategien, einschließlich unveränderbarer Backups (Immutable Backups) und Ransomware-Wiederherstellung.
• Sicherstellung, dass Backup- und Recovery-Fähigkeiten die definierten RPO- und RTO-Ziele erfüllen.
• Leitung von Recovery-Tests sowie Validierung von Wiederherstellungsverfahren.

Cloud & Automatisierung

• Design und Unterstützung von Storage- und Datensicherungslösungen in AWS- und Microsoft Azure-Umgebungen.
• Entwicklung von Infrastructure-as-Code- und Automatisierungslösungen mit Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell, Python, Bicep, CloudFormation oder vergleichbaren Technologien.
• Vorantreiben von Automatisierungsinitiativen zur Steigerung der betrieblichen Effizienz und Systemzuverlässigkeit.

Technische Führung

• Fachliche Führung bei Infrastrukturprojekten und Modernisierungsprogrammen im Enterprise-Umfeld.
• Mitwirkung an Technologiestrategien, Roadmaps und Zielarchitekturen.
• Mentoring von Engineers sowie Förderung von Best Practices im Engineering.

Erforderliche Qualifikationen

• Mindestens 10 Jahre Erfahrung im Infrastruktur-Engineering mit fundierter Expertise in Enterprise Storage und Datensicherung.
• Praktische Erfahrung in der Konzeption, Implementierung und Betreuung von Enterprise-Storage-Lösungen auf Basis von NetApp und/oder VAST Data.
• Umfangreiche Erfahrung in der Architektur und dem Betrieb von Enterprise-Backup- und Recovery-Lösungen mit Commvault.
• Erfahrung mit Storage- und Backup-Services in On-Premises-, Hybrid-Cloud- und Public-Cloud-Umgebungen.
• Erfahrung in der Entwicklung von Infrastructure-as-Code- und Automatisierungslösungen.
• Nachweisbare Erfahrung in der Leitung groß angelegter Infrastrukturmodernisierungs-, Migrations- oder Cloud-Transformationsprojekte.

Wünschenswerte Qualifikationen

• Erfahrung mit sowohl VAST Data- als auch NetApp-Umgebungen.
• Erfahrung in den Bereichen Cyber Recovery, Ransomware-Resilienz und Immutable Backups.
• Erfahrung mit Kubernetes Storage und dem Datenschutz für containerisierte Anwendungen.
• Relevante Zertifizierungen in den Bereichen AWS, Azure, NetApp, Commvault, VMware oder Infrastrukturmanagement.

Als Senior Individual Contributor fungiert der Staff Storage & Backup Engineer als technische Instanz für Storage- und Backup-Services mit besonderem Schwerpunkt auf den Plattformen VAST Data, NetApp und Commvault.

Position Summary

The Staff Storage & Backup Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for the architecture, engineering, automation, and lifecycle management of enterprise storage and data protection platforms across on-premises, hybrid-cloud, and public cloud environments.

This role has a primary focus on VAST Data, NetApp, and Commvault technologies and will lead the design, optimization, modernization, and operational excellence of storage and backup services.

What You Will Do

Storage Architecture & Engineering

• Lead the architecture, engineering, and lifecycle management of storage platforms with a primary focus on VAST Data and NetApp technologies.
• Design and optimize scalable storage solutions supporting enterprise and mission-critical workloads.
• Lead storage modernization, migration, consolidation, and cloud integration initiatives.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting and performance optimization across storage environments.

Backup, Recovery & Data Protection

• Design, implement, and optimize enterprise backup and recovery solutions with a primary focus on Commvault.
• Develop cyber-resilient data protection strategies including immutable backup and ransomware recovery.
• Ensure backup and recovery capabilities support defined RPO and RTO objectives.
• Lead recovery testing and validation exercises.

Cloud & Automation

• Design and support storage and data protection solutions across AWS and Microsoft Azure.
• Develop Infrastructure-as-Code and automation solutions using Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell, Python, Bicep, CloudFormation, or similar technologies.
• Drive automation initiatives that improve operational efficiency and reliability.

Technical Leadership

• Provide technical leadership for enterprise infrastructure projects and modernization initiatives.
• Contribute to technology roadmaps and future-state architecture planning.
• Mentor engineers and promote engineering best practices.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of infrastructure engineering experience with significant expertise in enterprise storage and data protection.
• Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise storage solutions using NetApp and/or VAST Data platforms.
• Strong experience architecting and supporting enterprise backup and recovery solutions using Commvault.
• Experience supporting storage and backup services across on-premises, hybrid-cloud, and public cloud environments.
• Experience developing Infrastructure-as-Code and automation solutions.
• Proven experience leading large-scale infrastructure modernization, migration, or cloud transformation initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with both VAST Data and NetApp environments.
• Cyber recovery, ransomware resilience, and immutable backup experience.
• Kubernetes storage and container data protection experience.
• Relevant AWS, Azure, NetApp, Commvault, VMware, or infrastructure certifications.

Leadership Expectations

As a senior individual contributor, the Staff Storage & Backup Engineer will serve as the technical authority for storage and backup services with particular emphasis on VAST Data, NetApp, and Commvault platforms. The role is expected to remain hands-on while helping shape technology strategy, mentoring engineers, driving automation, and leading modernization efforts across the enterprise.
